Private web applications

Private Websites, Admin Panels, Chat, Forms, and Payment Tools

Apply a Site VPN to static sites, LAMP and PHP administration, AI chat, contact-form inboxes, APIs, and Bitcoin or Solana payment operations.

Separate public functions from private operations

A public website and a private administration system do not need the same network boundary. Keep marketing pages, documentation intended for search, form submission endpoints, and customer payment initiation available to the audiences that need them. Move editing, moderation, exports, reconciliation, keys, operational dashboards, and development tools to private hostnames reachable only through the Site VPN.

This separation is clearer than hiding sensitive functions under an obscure path. It also supports different security controls: a public endpoint needs rate limiting and abuse resistance, while a private dashboard needs device enrollment, named users, role-based authorization, and audit events. The reverse proxy and firewall should express those differences directly.

Static websites

Private docs, prototypes, runbooks, build reports, and client deliverables with controlled caching and a private origin.

LAMP and PHP panels

Apache or Nginx, PHP-FPM, database access, file permissions, sessions, and patches remain hardened behind the tunnel.

Private static websites need a private destination and cache policy

A static site has no database or server-side application runtime, but its files can still contain confidential material. Bind the web server to the WireGuard address or a private reverse proxy. Keep public and private build outputs, storage destinations, deployment credentials, and CI jobs separate. Scan artifacts for source maps, environment files, archives, and content that should not be shipped.

Browser caching changes the access model. A service worker or offline cache can keep the whole site available after the tunnel disconnects. That may be intentional for field work, but it should be treated as managed offline distribution. Use appropriate cache headers, managed devices, and a content-expiration plan. The private static website guide covers these details.

A private LAMP or PHP origin still needs application security

Use a separate private hostname and virtual host for administration. Bind it to a private interface, reject unknown hostnames, and keep the public and private document roots or application pools distinct. Run PHP-FPM with a dedicated unprivileged user, place secrets outside the web root, prevent uploads from executing code, and give the application a least-privilege database account.

Retain multifactor authentication, secure sessions, CSRF protection, output encoding, patching, and backups. A connected device can be compromised, and a browser can carry attacks from a public page to a private address. The VPN reduces exposure; it does not make untrusted input or administrative actions safe.

Private AI chat and private team chat have different data risks

Keep the chat interface, model server, retrieval database, and administration tools on distinct private services. Map where prompts, files, embeddings, conversation history, and logs are processed. A private URL may still send data to a hosted model API or third-party observability system. Document that flow and restrict egress when the use case requires local processing.

Use named application users and give tools minimal authority. A chatbot that can execute Python, query production data, send messages, or change infrastructure needs deterministic authorization outside the model and explicit confirmation for consequential actions. A VPN does not prevent prompt injection or sensitive information disclosure.

Public contact forms can feed a private inbox

A static public form can submit to one narrow public endpoint whose service account may create a message but cannot list, export, delete, or configure the inbox. The private dashboard binds to the VPN address and uses named users. Validate and limit input at the public edge, encode messages when displayed, rate-limit abuse, and keep notification emails brief.

Internal webhooks should use unique secrets, signatures, replay protection, and narrowly scoped service identities. Prefer outbound delivery from a queue over exposing a general automation server. Attachments should be scanned, stored outside the web root, and served only through an authorized private path.

Keep payment initiation public and payment operations private

Bitcoin Pay, Solana Pay, stablecoin, or card-based checkout flows may require a public address, QR code, invoice endpoint, or webhook. That does not mean reconciliation, wallet administration, refund controls, accounting exports, or provider credentials should share the same public origin. Place operational dashboards and signing or approval interfaces behind the Site VPN and use named roles with strong authentication.

Do not put seed phrases, private keys, unrestricted API tokens, or signing secrets in browser code or on the general web server. Separate watch-only monitoring from transaction authorization. Validate webhook signatures and chain or provider status independently before updating an order. A private network narrows who can reach the dashboard; financial key management requires its own hardware, process, and approval controls.

SiteVPN.com does not provide financial, custody, or wallet services. These sections describe network separation for web operations, not investment or payment guarantees.

Use the reverse proxy as a clear service boundary

A private reverse proxy can terminate HTTPS, reject unknown hostnames, add security headers, enforce user identity, and route to applications on loopback or a service network. Configure one private hostname per major function when that makes policy clearer. Do not let the proxy’s convenience turn into a single broad service account that can reach every database and admin port.

Test direct origin addresses, public interfaces, IPv6, alternate host headers, and management ports. Keep proxy configuration in version control without secrets, validate it before reload, and maintain a console recovery path. For browser-only audiences who should not receive private network routes, compare an identity-aware application tunnel on the alternatives page.

Design the public/private seam first

The safest private web architecture begins with a resource map: what must remain public, what should be private, which users and services need each path, and which secrets or actions have the highest consequence. The Site VPN should expose only the private side of that seam.
